Birth Control Health Benefits
The birth control pill has revolutionized the contraception. It was first presented to the market in 1960 and since then millions of women have embraced it. A study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that even with this large availability of birth control methods women are still reluctant on taking them.
A study recently conducted shows that in 3 women one will stop taking birth control pills after one year. Many of them do that because the changes in the insurance coverage or some side effects. Many women also use IUD, intrauterine devices, and they tend to be satisfied with that. But there are not many doctors trained to insert them.
Dr. Nancy Padian, a well known epidemiologist in reproductive health from California, San Francisco tells "Women must understand that a certain birth control product will have its effects only if it is taken for a longer period of time". But in the last few years more and more doctors have been prescribing birth control pills and taught women of their side effects. There are many hormonal formulas on the market and they can easily be taken safely. Also, women can turn to other methods of hormonal contraceptives like skin patches, implants, vaginal rings, IUDs, and much more. They are helpful combinations that can reduce some risks. But smokers should pay extra attention to those methods.
Dr. Anita L. Nelson, the director of the reproductive health department at Harbor-U.C.L.A. Medical Center in Los Angeles explains "Women with diabetes have to take special types of pills in order not to worsen their health. Also the women that had problems with former pregnancies.” The conclusion is that birth control pills have their advantages and also disadvantages. You must look into them before making the right decision and choosing the pill for you.
